DOUB, Donald Thomas “Tommy”, 87, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was the son of Lorraine Thomas Doub and Donald J. Doub. Born in Frederick, Maryland, but spent most of his life in Richmond, Virginia. Tommy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955, and Randolph Macon College in 1959. He played on championship football teams at both schools. In 1976 he earned a Master of Education degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Tommy was also known as “Coach” to many from Varina High School. His entire working career was spent at Varina High School from 1959 to 1995. He taught math for 32 years, and coached football and track for 36 years. He was also the Varina High School Athletic Director for 30 years. He was inducted into the Varina High School Athletic Wall of Fame in 2002. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia Coaches Association. He was also a member of the Virginia and Henrico County Retired Educators Association, the Touchdown Club of Richmond, WARTS (Worn-out Affiliated Retired Task-makers Society), and the Boyton Society of Randolph Macon College. Tommy is survived by three wonderful children, Warren Doub, Tracy Wetzel (Greg), and Lorey Martin; five grandchildren, Wes Doub, Ashley Doub Mayo (Bob), Lorraine Martin Joyce (Josh), Berkeley Martin, and Carlin Wetzel Mullan (Andrew); two great-granddaughters, Lainey Joyce, and Nora Joyce; the mother of their children, Beverley Benson Doub; and a special double first cousin, Jack Doub of Delaware. Tommy will always be remembered for his love of family, devotion to his students, loyalty, and generosity. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Dr, Sandston, VA 23150. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Blue Devil Nation Athletic Boosters, Attn: Lamont Folsom, 7900 Messer Rd, Henrico, VA 23231.
