WHEAT, David Lee, 75, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2021. David Lee was born November 22, 1946. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Thomas Wheat; father, Warren Wheat; brother, Boyd Wheat; and countless loving pets including his pride and joy, Lucy Mae and Luc. He is survived by his beautiful, loving, wife of 50 years, Rose Duke Wheat; daughter, Carol Duke; son, Scott Wheat; grandchildren, Sarah Herndon and Zach Herndon; nephew, Michael Wheat; cousin/sister/sidekick, Barbara Wheat; lifelong friend/neighbor, Jimmy Story; and "the greatest neighbors and friends anyone could ever ask for", Jamee and Jeremy Prewitt; as well as many loving cousins and friends (more than we can name,) but he loved you all and would help absolutely anyone who ever needed it. He is also survived by Cali and Charlie, who he had just recently rescued in April. David Lee Wheat joined the Marines when he was 17 to serve his country. His unit was the first to arrive at Da Nang in Vietnam and it was something he took almost as much pride in as his family. He loved his country and served it proudly. David Lee worked on everything and loved to stay busy. He was the go-to for many a friend and family, and he'd be out the door if anyone ever needed his help. His post Marine era started in construction, (he built our family home) and ended as the Architectural Trades Foreman at Henrico County School Board, until he retired. He then spent hours in the garage working on and fixing appliances, and whatever else he could get his hands on. He loved golf and was very proud of his hole in one and his handicap. David loved his wife Rose more than anything in the entire world, and he treated her and loved her with everything he had. He loved his children and grandchildren and would do anything in his power for them. The family will receive friends on Monday April 4, 2022 from 10am-11am at Shalom Baptist Church, 8116 Walnut Grove Rd. Mechanicsville, VA 23111 where a celebration of life will immediately follow at 11am.
