David Wayne Spittle

Heaven gained an extraordinary angel Tuesday, April 20, 2021 when SPITTLE, David Wayne, 69, of Mechanicsville, VA was called home to the Lord. David was born in Alexandria, VA in 1951 to Cecil and Nellie Spittle. He was the youngest of five children, Douglas, Tom, Gene, and Chester, all who preceded him in death. David graduated from George Washington High School and Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Science. David worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Richmond Memorial Hospital, where he met and married his lovely bride after four months, then later at Henrico Doctors' Hospital and American Home Care. David later fulfilled his dream of being his own boss as a Realtor at Bowers, Nelms, and Fonville and later Long & Foster for nearly 30 years. His self-employment afforded him the opportunity to spend time with his family who loved him greatly and to pursue a part-time job as the greatest chauffeur his wife, children, and grandchildren could ever ask for. David was a wonderful cook who spent weekends watching the Food Network. In addition to cooking, he also enjoyed tennis, gardening, reading, listening to music, and playing drums and guitar, photography, hunting and fishing, birdwatching, listening to WRVA on the radio, cheering on his grandchildren at Mechanicsville Little League, and watching Hallmark movies with his beloved wife. He was a kind man, the calm in the center of a storm, and a wonderful husband, loving father, and amazing "Papo" (grandfather). David is survived by the love of his life for 47 years, wife Barbara, four children daughter Carol Sprouse and husband Russell, daughter Sarah, son Steven and daughter Kristen Uerz and husband Chris , three amazing grandchildren Mason Sprouse, Chase Sprouse and Mackenzie Uerz, and a wonderful extended family and numerous friends. David was the nucleus of his family, was deeply loved and will be missed immensely. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the leukemia lymphoma Society, diseases which David and his youngest daughter battled and conquered together. The family asks that you tell those you love just how much they mean to you while you are able and finds solace in knowing they will one day be reunited for all eternity. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm, Friday, April 23, 2021 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy. Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 2:00 pm, at Hanover Memorial Park, 4447 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
