Clarke, David L. “Smiley”, 70 of Mechanicsville, VA. passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Dorothy Clarke; and his brother, Ronnie Clarke. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Debbie Clarke; children, Michael (Nikki), Michelle (Eric), and Melissa (Shane); Grandchildren, Bradley (Morgan), Cassie, Sammy, Greyson, Declan, Colson, Katlyn, Aaron, and Madelyn; Great grandchildren, Christopher, Ginna, Miles, Oaklynn, and Waylon; special long time friends, Kevin and Judy Kilgour, Keith and Kathleen Motley, and Norman Montgomery; and numerous other family and friends. David was a man of many passions and a deep love for his family. He was a true enthusiast of all things automotive. He had a particular fondness for hot rods and spent many hours following NASCAR and drag races. His pride and joy was his 1967 Nova- a car he considered his baby and meticulously cared for over the years. When he wasn’t in the garage, he could often be found enjoying a classic Western movie or cheering on his favorite wrestlers. He was an electrician for 40 years with Local 666. Above all, he cherished his family. He was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones, whether it was during a quiet afternoon at home, or on one of the many family vacations he so dearly loved. His legacy of kindness and his zest for life will live on through the many lives he touched. The family will receive friends from 12 pm to 1 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Monaghan Funeral Home; 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm with a reception to follow. In honor of his love of classic cars, the family invites all of those who shared this love with Smiley to bring their Hotrods to the services for a cruise-in.
