Cheryl Ann (Chezik) Sclater

Cheryl (Chezik) Sclater, 65, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Betty Chezik, and sister, Paulette Williams. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Wayne Sclater; her daughter, Shelly Verougstrate (Rudie Verougstraete); her son, Michael Sclater; her sister, Sandra Boyette; her mother-in-law, Shirley Sclater; and many other relatives and friends. 

Cheryl was born and raised in Hopewell, Virginia, and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1979. She worked at Harleysville Insurance for many years before taking her insurance knowledge to the State Corporation Commission. Her biggest impact in life was made through sharing her love and guidance as a mother to her two children, and she was a devoted and loving wife. She held a special love for crafting, pink flamingos, spending quality time with friends and family, but more importantly, the Lord and Fairmount Christian Church. She was a loving and thoughtful woman, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.
