Charlene Smith Sanford

SANFORD, Charlene Smith, 71, of Mechanicsville, VA. passed away on July 03, 2026. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lois Smith; and father, Charles Smith; her two brothers, David Smith and Michael Smith; her chosen sister, Susan Wood. She is survived by her sons, James Sanford III (Kristi), Kevin Sanford (Peggy); daughter Crystal Smith (Gregory); grandchildren, Madelyn Sanford, Chase Sanford, Cole Sanford, Austin Sanford, Taylor Smith, and Lauren Smith; her chosen sister, Tracy Sorrell. Charlene enjoyed traveling, it could be a cruise, or a trip, regardless the destination. She loved her children, grandchildren, friends, and most of all her dogs, Sammy and Suzie. Charlene was especially proud of her 30 plus years working in Hanover County in food service for Lee Davis High School and a cafeteria manager at Atlee High School. A celebration of life will be held 4 – 6 pm, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA, 23111. A catered reception will be available during the celebration.
