WARD, Beverly Bowers, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 85. Born in Atlanta, GA on February 20, 1938, Beverly relocated to Virginia as an adult, but she always held a deep connection to the red clay of the Georgia mountains. That love lives on through her children. “Beverly proudly graduated from Mercer University with Honors and greatly loved being a sister of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She helped found Zeta Xi chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Virginia. “Beverly is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of sixty-five years, Jackson T. Ward; and their children: Cindy Weber (Robert), Angie Ward, and Mike Ward (Pom). With all of her life’s accomplishments, her absolute greatest joy was being Gaga to her grandchildren: Tiana Ward, Ryan Weber, and Blake Weber. They were the sunshine of her life and she cherished every activity, game, concert, play and minute they shared. She was the glue and the rock on which everyone relied and will be incredibly missed. Preceding her in death and welcoming her home were her parents, Vincent (“Bud”) and Lois (“Lolo”) Bowers; along with her brother, James Bowers (“Uncle Jim”). Beverly selflessly dedicated her life to her family and to all children. Beginning her career in Henrico, she retired after teaching first grade for many years at Cold Harbor Elementary School in Hanover County. She was an active member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church and extended her love of children through her involvement in both Sunday School and the Children's Choir. Beverly will be remembered for her kind and nurturing nature, her dedication to children, her love for her family and her deep, abiding faith. The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, November 2, from 3-7 PM at Monaghan Funeral Home in Mechanicsville. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 3, at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fairfield Presbyterian Church Children’s Fund, Hanover Fire and Rescue, or Tunnel to Towers.
