HICKORY - Barbara (Barby) Blair Hutchinson, 88, of Hickory, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She was under the care of her youngest daughter residing in VA. Barby was born June 1, 1937, in Providence, RI to the late Robert Collyer Blair and Katharine Reilly. Barby was a graduate of University of FL, Gainesville and University of SC, Columbia. She was a devoted mother and worked hard to support her family. In the late 80's, she was part owner of Current Events, a local postal store in the Viewmont area of Hickory. She also worked for a period of time at Lisa's Hallmark of Hickory. She held many roles in serving others all while exemplifying her Lord Jesus. She was a caretaker, a nurse's aid as well as a nanny. She had a servant's heart and will be deeply missed. Barby is survived by: two sisters, Kay Johnson of CA and Ellyn McNair of SC; three sons, Lawrence Patrick Hutchinson of VA, Matthew Sedgewick Hutchinson and Nathan Collyer Hutchinson, both of Hickory; two daughters, Heather Friesland of Hickory and Katharine Beahm of VA; four step sons, Timothy Stewart Hutchinson, Jeffrey Alastair Hutchinson and Peter Andrew Hutchinson, all of VA, and Ian Michael Hutchinson of Kauai, HI; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date and information will be released accordingly. In Matthew 22:39, Jesus told us, "And...You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Barby embodied this. If you are led to honor her memory, perhaps send a note to someone who may never get one, visit a shut-in with treats and time, or just stop and talk with a neighbor. These are the things that she did when she was able. When she was no longer able, she prayed. That would be the greatest gift in lieu of flowers.
