MANGUM, Waylon T. “Shot”, 78, of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with the Lord, Monday, September 10, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, DJ Mangum and Mozelle Yeargin Mangum and a niece, Hope Mangum. “Shot” is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Gloria “Glow” Hart Mangum; 5 children, Cyndi Dobler (Phil), Vicky Kresinske, Wendy Rankin, Troy Mangum (Angie), and Roy Mangum (Kerith); 15 grandchildren, Jessica Nassar (Kevin), Trae Kresinske (Madelyn), Nathan Dobler, Ricky Kresinske (Megan), Lindsay Dobler, Danae Dobler, Ashley Rankin, Alec Mangum (Hannah), Kandis Kresinske, Gabriel Mangum, Josselyn Mangum, Sadie Mangum, Michael Mangum, Mickayla Mangum, and Elizabeth Mangum; 7 great-grandchildren, Savannah Nassar, Brody Dobler, Priscilla Nassar, Temperance Nassar, Felicity Kresinske, Jade Altenburg, and Remington Hern; 2 brothers, DJ Mangum (Erlyne) and Glyn Mangum (Rita); sister, Judy Pierce (Dalton); brother-in-law, Jesse Hart (Debbie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. “Shot” loved and served the Lord his entire life. He lived faithfully; Jesus 1st, Family 2nd, and work last. He was a founding member of Mechanicsville Christian Center (MCC). “Shot” loved sports as a player, a spectator, and a coach. He was a true leader in every sense of the word. He had many accomplishments in his life; including being in the insurance business for more than 40 years; was past President and Hall of Fame Member for the Virginia Association of Life Underwriters (VALU); Member of the Board of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA); and a member of the Softball Hall of Fame. He loved softball, but his greatest love was for the Lord and his family. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. The family will receive friends, Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 4 - 8 pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA 2311. A Celebration of Life will be held, 11 am, Monday, September 24, 2018, at Mechanicsville Christian Center, 8061 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23111, where a reception will be held immediately following the service. Interment will be at 3 pm at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
