Robert Lee Carpenter

CARPENTER, Robert L, 90, of Quinton, VA died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018.  Robert was born on August 31, 1928 in Delevan, NY to the late Leon and Mary (Best) Carpenter.  He attended Kenmore High School which he left at age 17 to join the Navy.  He served in the Pacific theater during WWII and the Korean War. After his discharge, he attended classes at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY where he obtained a bachelor’s degree.  On June 4, 1960, during a semester break, he married Barbara Hutchison in Kenmore, NY.

Robert is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Carpenter, their granddaughter, Brienna, and their great-granddaughter, Aaliyah.  He is survived by their children Janet (Carpenter) and her husband, Lorin Sodell, and Eric and his wife, Michelle (Myers) Carpenter, all of Quinton, VA.  He is also survived by four grandchildren: Nathan, Catherine, and Lauren Carpenter, and Beth Turk and four great-grandchildren: Silas, Mavyn, Caiden and Trevor.

Robert was a life-long member of the F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge.  He was also very active with Grotto.  He enjoyed old movies, sitting on the porch watching the world go by, and talking over coffee.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA.  Graveside services will take place on Friday, Oct. 5 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 55 Lambert Avenue Fredonia, NY.  A Masonic funeral service will be at 10:45am, followed by a service officiated by Rev. Cynthia Wickwire at 11:00am for the burial of Robert and his wife.  A gathering immediately after the service will be held at the Cassadaga American Legion, 228 Maple Avenue Cassadaga, NY.
