Kimbrough, Ned (Edward Elson) Jr, 59, of Boone’s Mill, VA (formerly of Richmond) made his last Facebook post on June 20 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 21, 2018 at his home that he shared with his son, Carey Kimbrough. Ned was born in 1958 and grew up in Richmond, VA where he graduated from Douglas Freeman High School. Always gregarious, he enjoyed football, wrestling, swimming, and golf almost as much as telling stories and jokes and listening to good music. After a few jobs and a lot of partying, he went to work for Philip Morris for many years. He married Lynne Jones in 1990 and in 1991 they welcomed their son Carey Elson into their Mechanicsville home. At Philip Morris, Ned became certified in hazardous waste management and containment which led him to his next career. He donned a hazmat suit and cleaned up government waste sites and oil spills. A work accident in 2000 left him with a spinal injury that put an end to his physical labor and athletics, so he attended ECPI and received an Associate’s Degree in Technology. His last job was working tech support for Verizon. Life became more challenging for Ned as his health and mobility began to fail. Also, he and Carey had to adjust to life without Lynne when she passed away in 2013. Thanks to Facebook, Ned was able to keep in touch with friends, share music, and continue to delight his followers with his creativity and humor. He is survived by his son; his sisters, Karen Kimbrough Lowry and Ruth Kimbrough Burdge, and his brother Douglas Lee Kimbrough, who will greatly miss his laughter and sense of fun. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 2:00 pm, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, VA. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to their favorite animal charity or shelter in his honor.
