YARBROUGH, Catherine Alexander, 87, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 9, 2018, with her family at her side. Affectionately known by friends and family as “Kitty,” she was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie Alexander. Kitty is survived by her husband of 67 years, James “Wally” Yarbrough; daughter, Susan Finkenstaedt and husband, Mike of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; daughter, Linda Corbin and her husband, Paul of Mechanicsville; and son, David Yarbrough and his wife, Dee of Glen Allen. Kitty is Nana to seven grandchildren: Kate Levy and her husband, Brent of Denver, Colorado; Billy Finkenstaedt of Los Angeles, California; Andrew Corbin, of Richmond; Zack Yarbrough, of Norfolk; Olivia Corbin, of Mechanicsville; Christy Finkenstaedt, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; and Josh Yarbrough, of Glen Allen. Kitty is also a great-grandmother to the newest addition to the family, Stowe Levy, of Denver, Colorado. Kitty will be lovingly remembered by her surviving brothers, Edward Alexander, Jr. of Richmond; and Frank Alexander and his wife, Carol, of Plantation, Florida. Numerous nephews and nieces will also have fond memories of “Aunt Kitty.” Born on August 24, 1930, Kitty lived her entire life in the Richmond area. Growing up in the Northside of the city, she attended Thomas Jefferson High School and later Longwood University. She and Wally married in June of 1951 and lived in Hanover and the West End of Richmond before permanently settling in Mechanicsville in 1964. They are long-time members of Mechanicsville Baptist Church, and Kitty has many lifelong girlfriends from her Sunday School class. Together, they enjoyed taking shopping trips, attending water aerobics, and chatting on the phone for hours! Kitty worked in several jobs including Southern States and State Farm Insurance, but her most rewarding position was as wife to Wally and mother to Susan, Linda, and David. She maintained their home, loved to cook for them, and spend time at “the rivah”. Later in life she enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks with the expanded Yarbrough clan for wonderful family vacations. Most recently, Kitty was excited to welcome her family to her new home at Covenant Woods. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 2pm – 4pm and from 6pm – 8pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 12:00pm, at Mechanicsville Baptist Church 8016 Atlee Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Endowment Fund.
