Vernon L. Sykes, III

SYKES, Vernon III;  84, of Mechanicsville, VA entered his heavenly home, Thursday, May 6, 2021. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Thelma “Sissy” Sykes. Vernon is survived by his cousins, and his dear friends, Susan and Daniel Simpson and Tommy and Bonnie Norwood. Vernon was a member of Fairmount Christian Church.  He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean war. Vernon also loved to fish. The family will receive friends,  from 10 – 11 am, Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy. Mechanicsville, VA 23111.  A graveside service will be held at 1 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the U & I Sunday School class at Fairmount Christian Church, PO Box 788, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
