CHENAULT, John Wayne, 78, of Richmond, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Butler Chenault and Myrtle Tyler Chenault; his brothers, William Ray Chenault, Sr. and Marion Steven Chenault; sister, Brenda Chenault Capps; and beloved cousin, William Warren Tyler, Jr. He is survived by his children, sons Robert (Stephanie), Marc (Rose), and Parke, daughters Susan Ann Johnson, Penny Heit (Brian), and Paige Walsh; grandchildren, Austin Chenault (Chelsea), Reid Chenault (Mariah), Christian Chenault, Taylor Allen, Krista Rivers (T.J.), and Patrick Walsh; and great-granddaughter, Taelynn Chenault. John was the Principal of Chenault & Associates and proudly held the professional designation of A.I.A. (American Institute of Architects). He brought his profession and passion together as he designed many churches in Richmond and surrounding counties. He also worked on numerous commercial and residential projects, with a special interest in historic restoration and preservation projects. In the 1990s, he was elected president of The Virginia Association of Professions. This association was composed of individual and association representatives of various professions. John founded Maximum Security Ministries where he served the Lord and guided prison inmates toward spiritual and personal rebirth. John loved acoustic guitar and music. He loved playing his guitar and singing with his family. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 1706 St. Matthews Ln, Ridge, VA 23233. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church in John’s memory.
