D’Adamo, Sr., Stephen Domenick; 69, of Mechanicsville, beloved husband of Virginia (Clarke) D’Adamo, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 following a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Massie D’Adamo. He is survived by his father, Domenick D’Adamo, Jr.; sisters, Shirley (John) Packett and Rosemary (Ed) Jones; children, Nikki (Phil) D’Adamo-Damery, Steve (Erin) D’Adamo, Jr., and Jessica (Jess Moore) D’Adamo; grandchildren, Christopher, Carson, Iris, Anaïs, and Juno; mother-in-law, Shirley Clarke; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Steve attended Virginia Tech and then served in the U.S. Army as an MP. As a young, working father, he earned his economics degree and an MBA from VCU. In the early 1980s, he created a computer inventory system for Lea Industries, which led to a long career as a systems analyst with Virginia Power, DoubleStar, and ICF. Though he was a driven professional, Steve was always a loving, present, and loyal father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend. He coached Little League, served as a youth counselor, led mission trips, and mentored young people even after his own children were grown. He was adored by his grandchildren—a baby-whisperer who could calm a toddler and get a teenager to talk. Grandpa. Dad. Steve. Loved and beloved. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, February 20th from 4 – 8 pm at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, February 21st at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
